No One Cares About Your Potential: It’s Time to Deliver Results.

Potential is nice, but it doesn’t pay the bills. Results is the key to accelerating your career.

You probably know I’m obsessed with the word “potential”

But potential doesn’t pay the bills.

It doesn’t get you promoted.

It doesn’t make you a leader.

Potential can be a buzzword if you don’t do anything with it.

Results matter.

Potential is potential - it is unrealized, unproven, and until you turn it into something tangible, it is meaningless.

The world rewards action. Resting on potential is a dangerous game.

You might be the smartest person in the room, the most creative thinker, the one with the most innovative ideas. But if you can’t translate these into results. It doesn’t matter.

Why am I saying results matter more than potential?

  1. Results are tangible. Potential is a possibility. Results are real. They can be measured. They are visible.

  2. Results drive career growth. Prove you can deliver to them. Potential gets you in the door but results take you to the top.

  3. Results build trust and creditibility. People trust those who deliver. I’m sure you do too. Build your rep and brand around it.

  4. Results speak louder than words. I’m sure you heard “actions speak louder than words” - well same case here.

So how to start delivering results?

  1. Set clear, measurable goals. Define what success looks like for you in conrete terms. The more detailed, the better.

  2. Take initiative and own your work. When you see a problem, solve it. When you see an opportunity, go get it.

  3. Focus on impact, not effort. Nobody cares how many hours you put in. They care about the value.

  4. Track and show your achievements. Don’t be shy. You gotta do what you have to do to get recognized.

Let’s not fool ourselves anymore. It’s great you have potential but it isn’t going to get you to the top faster. We are here to accelerate and own our damn careers.

And up we go,

Mary
