This is what I mean by build you own ladder - and not just climb it. Part 1.
You can build one without wood, hammer and nails. But here's what you actually need instead...
Happy Sunday!
I often talk about building your own ladder - and not just climbing it.
So how the heck do you even go about this?
Well, that's simple.
It starts with you.
Most feel lost in life because they have no clarity.
I can't blame them - there is so much noise out there.
On top of that, there are expectations thrown at us.
As you get older, the thoughts of "I should have this" or "I should be this" creeps up.
Don't get me started on how one feels when they start comparing themselves.
But fear not!
Mary is here.
Here's how to start building your own ladder:
Embrace Self-Discovery
Take the time to really understand what drives you, what you're passionate about, and what you value most.
You cannot skip this step. This will involve deep introspection. Do not lie to yourself.
Define Your Own Success
What success means for one person can be entirely different for another. Define what it looks like for you. Not based on societal expectations or comparions with others.
Is it freedom? Is it the ability to create? Is it to make an impact?
Set Clear, Personal Goals
Think of SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals as the rungs of the ladder you are building for yourself.
Hold yourself accountable. There is no point in starting something you can't continue.
Limit External Noise
There is a wealth of information (and junk) out there. Not all of it will serve your journey. Be selective about who and what you listen to.
Align yourself with voices and resources that support your vision and values.
Take Consistent Action
This is an active process. Take consistent steps towards your goals, even if they're small. Each step is a progression, a move away from the "shoulds" and towards YOUR own path.
Reflect and Adapt
As you go up each step, reflect on your journey. Life and priorities change. Check in and see what's working and what isn't.
Pivoting does not mean failing.
Remember, building your own ladder means stepping away from predefined paths and daring to create your own. It is about making conscious choices that align with who you are and who you want to be.
Yes, it will feel daunting at times. But the view from the top of your own ladder is worth it.
See you at the top,
Mary F
